Trouvés Top Five! Natural shaving cream, Stella perfume, an Iowa print shop

You know what time it is! It’s time for the Trouvés Top Five!

I got some business advice from a mentor about a month ago and haven’t sent her a thank you card yet. Shame on me! (update: I just took my own advice) When you ask someone if you can “pick their brain” and they give you advice, sending a timely thank you card or gift is the appropriate gesture. Note to self: send out the rest of my wedding thank yous. =/

My friends Christina and Caroline told me about their friends’ print company in Iowa, Moglea. That will have to be the next box of cards I buy. They have the most insane studio they built on their property. Check it out here.

To stay true to my asian roots, I was going to buy a rice cooker. Since we have limited space in our teeny place, I remembered there was this rice lid I saw at Bed, Bath, & Beyond. You put it on a normal sauce pan, and it keeps rice from overflowing. Genius! So I picked that up yesterday.

My mom asked me what I wanted for my birthday. She usually just gives me money, as per our culture, but this time she asked me, via text:

“Happy birthday daughter. What do you want?”

“A rice cooker”

But then I thought, that is a lame birthday present if I could buy it for myself. So I bought Stella perfume by the fashion house Tocca from Magnolia Market. Thanks, mom! I used to lament that my mom and dad weren’t more sentimental, but people show their love in different ways, don’t they? We just have to be open, receive it, and be grateful.

On Being podcasts. Okay, so I haven’t listened to these yet, but one of my best friends – a mountainwoman that has a heart of gold, loves listening to these, so I thought I’d share them with you.

For a few years I’ve just used conditioner as shaving cream, but lately I’ve been noticing a lot of painful ingrown hairs. The kind of pain where, when you touch it, you feel like someone’s pricking you with a knife. I think when I read the articles that said you could use conditioner as shaving cream, they just meant as a short-term substitute. I got the Trader Joe’s shaving cream and I love using it- It smells like a coconut tropical paradise.

Sprouts cookies

Sprouts grocery store’s white chocolate macadamia nut cookies fresh from their bakery are TO DIE FOR. I ate half the box in two days and just waited guiltily for my husband to notice and say something. Sprouts also has a healthier brand of OREO-type cookies that taste just like OREOs. They had a really good sale on snacks, so I went to Sprouts specifically just to get snacks. All I bought that day were boxes of cookies and fig newtons. I said to the checkout lady, “Don’t worry, I got all the major food groups covered.” She said, yeah I was wondering…

Forest fires are just part of the circle of life. The sad thing is when people like to live in the woods and their houses come under attack. My old roommate Gaby posted this article, and she’s right- it is a great metaphor for life, that unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.
